Charleston, SC -
Citadel Basketball coach Pat Dennis announced the Bulldogs' 2004-05 hoops schedule early Thursday with road trips to the United States Military Academy, Georgetown and Clemson highlighting this season's slate of games.
"We feel this schedule will prepare us for an always tough Southern Conference slate," stated Citadel head coach Pat Dennis. "We play three early season road games at West Point, Georgetown, and Clemson that should allow us to see where we are before we start SoCon play."
The Bulldogs open the season on the road at West Point against military-rival Army on November 20 then return home to face Washington & Lee on November 23. Following Dennis' first home game of the year against his alma mater, The Citadel will make its way to Washington, D.C. for a game versus the Georgetown Hoyas the day after Thanksgiving.
The next four games for the Dogs will be in McAlister Field House against Chowan, Voorhees, Atlanta Christian and Savannah State, before taking on the Clemson Tigers on Friday, December 17 in the Upstate. This season's game against Clemson marks the first time the two Palmetto State teams have squared off since the pair met in December of 2000 in Littlejohn Coliseum.
Dennis' squad will then get an early Southern Conference test as the Catamounts of Western Carolina come to Charleston on December 21. The Bulldogs faced Appalachian State in last seasons' early SoCon match-up.
"Last year's non-conference schedule was extremely tough," Dennis added. "The early season portion of this season's schedule is still going to be a test for our young guys, but it should benefit us by allowing our freshman and sophomores to continue the learning process."
With the Holiday break in The Citadel's rear view mirror, Navy comes calling on December 30 for the Bulldogs' last game before resuming SoCon play on Wednesday, January 5 against Chattanooga in Tennessee. Dennis' team, which consists of only one senior, will play a full conference slate with the Dogs hosting Furman and College of Charleston consecutively on February 7 and 12, respectively.
Sandwiched in between a tough conference schedule are two non-conference games versus Savannah State on January 10 in Georgia and Lowcounty-rival Charleston Southern on February 17 in North Charleston.
The 2004-05 regular season will conclude on George Street in downtown Charleston as the Bulldogs and the CofC Cougars square off on February 26 at the John Kresse Arena. The Southern Conference Tournament, which will conclude the 2005 season, has moved to Chattanooga, TN for the 2005 Championship instead of the North Charleston Coliseum where it has been for the past three years.
