Rock Hill, S.C. - The Citadel Bulldogs fell to the Akron Zips 1-0 in their first game of the Costco Soccer Classic held at Winthrop University. Forward Abby Holzworth scored the lone goal of the game for the Zips in the first period with an assist by Katrina Moore.

For the Bulldogs, freshman Brit Bunnell started at goalkeeper for the first time this season. In her debut, she had seven saves. Senior Shawna Hartman got off five shots during the game, the most of any Bulldog for the night. Unfortunately, The Citadel could not get it into the net.

"We out possessed them and outplayed them, but unfortunately we ended up on the short end of the stick," said head coach Megan Hjerling. "Everyone played phenomenal."

The Bulldogs are back in action for their second and final game of the Costco Soccer Classic on Sunday, September 5 against the Winthrop Eagles at 3 p.m.
