Clemson, SC - The Citadel (1-1, 0-0 SoCon) opened up the 2004 volleyball season with a 3-2 win over Western Carolina at the Clemson Big Orange Bash in Jervey Gym on the Clemson campus. They then dropped a close scoring match to Winthrop 3-0.

The Cadets defeated the Catamounts 30-26 in game one and 30-28 in game two. The Citadel then dropped games three and four by scores of 25-30 and 16-30 respectively before finishing the match with a 15-12 win in the fifth game.

Senior Audra Ritchie and junior Samantha Parisi led the Bulldogs with 17 kills each. Ritchie also led the Dogs in the match with four service aces, while senior Katie Livingston contributed 51 of the teams 55 assists.

In the second match Winthrop defeated The Citadel 30-25, 30-28, 30-21 behind Mary Hock's 16 kills. For the Bulldogs, junior Samantha Parisi led the attack with 10 kills and senior Katie Livingston had 32 assists.

The Bulldogs will face Clemson and No. 21 Northern Iowa tomorrow, in the second day of the Clemson Big Orange Bash.
