Charleston, SC -
The 85th football game between The Citadel and Furman kicks off at 2:05 Saturday afternoon at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
The game will be televised live on the South Carolina ETV Network.
Furman, ranked No. 5 in the latest I-AA poll, holds a 52-29-3 advantage in the series that began in 1913. The Paladins and Bulldogs, the two senior members of the Southern Conference having joined in 1936, have played annually since 1946 as the rivalry was broken up only because of World War II.
With the two teams playing 84 times already and The Citadel having played 945 games in its 98 years of football, the Furman rivalry accounts for 8.8 percent of all Citadel games played ... ever.
The Bulldogs enter the game with a 2-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in SoCon play while the Paladins are 4-1 and also at 1-1 in the league. The Citadel is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between the rivals.
Saturday is also Parents Day, where the Bulldogs own a 27-25 record since 1953.
The Citadel is coming off a 27-7 loss at Southeastern Conference member Ole Miss last Saturday, in a game in which the Bulldogs trailed the Rebels 3-0 at halftime. Furman is coming off a 34-31 win at home over Appalachian State.
