Bulldogs Look To Rebound Against Terriers

Oct. 24, 2005

Charleston, SC - Head coach Kevin Higgins met with the media Monday afternoon in the Altman Center of Johnson Hagood Stadium to discuss The Citadel's 49-14 loss to the Georgia Southern Eagles and their upcoming game against the Wofford Terriers this Saturday.

The Bulldogs' first-year headcoach talked about the team's positives coming out of Statesboro, mentioning Nuru Goodrum's 100-yard rushing performance and Gary Domanski's 70-yard kick return. Goodrum, a junior from Fayetteville, NC, finished the game with 118 yards on 18 carries against the Eagles.

"I thought Nuru ran the ball real well. He finished over 100 yards and that is a first for this season. Hopefully we can build on that," Higgins stated. "We had struggled on kick returns all year, but Gary Domanski's 70-yard burst helped us out with field position on Saturday."

Coach Higgins also pointed out what the offense and defense needed to work on in practice this week before the Terriers come to town.

"The interception early was a bad decision on Justin's part," said Higgins. "Our offensive line did a good job of opening some holes for Nuru, but our pass protection had some breakdowns. Our defense did not do a good job of stopping the option either and that led to a disadvantage in field position for us."

Then the Bulldogs' coach moved into conversation about the Wofford Terriers, who are coming off of a 49-17 loss to Appalachian State in Spartanburg, SC this past Saturday.

Higgins closely pointed out that, "They are very similar to Georgia Southern on offense, but we have to do a better job of stopping their option attack. They like to run more formations than Georgia Southern and their defense is always in the right position at the right time." The Citadel plays host to the Wofford Terriers this Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 4:05 pm and will be televised on SCETV.
