Forward Warren McLendon, The Citadel's leading scorer and second-best rebounder a year ago, has been named to Street & Smith's preseason All-Southern Conference team.
Also named to the squad were Davidson's Brendan Winters, Georgia Southern's Elton Nesbitt, Western Carolina's David Berghoefer and UNC Greensboro's Kyle Hines. The list appeared in the publication's 2005-06 College Basketball editions.
As a freshman last year, the 6-5, 255-pounder from Dublin, GA, paced the Bulldogs in scoring with a 12.8 points per game average and was the second-best rebounder with 6.7 boards per outing.
Offensively, McLendon had 19 games - including a streak of 12 consecutive games - in which he scored double figures, including a season-high 27 points at East Tennessee State. He recorded 20-plus points on three occasions and 15 or more points 10 times.
Defensively, he grabbed 16 boards against Western Carolina and recorded double-doubles against Western Carolina (18 points, 16 rebounds), Georgia Southern (19-11), at Wofford (17-10) and College of Charleston (16-10).
A 2004 graduate of West Laurens High, McLendon earned Honorable Mention All-America honors after winning the Georgia AAA State Player of the Year honor.
The Bulldogs begin the 2005 season Nov. 18-20 at the Hispanic College Fund Classic, hosted by North Carolina State, and will meet Delaware, NC State and Stetson on consecutive days.
