Charleston, SC - The Citadel wrestling team opened the 2005-06 season by falling to North Carolina State, 20-15, but bounced back to defeat Newberry, 29-9 in dual matches Saturday evening in Deas Hall.

The Wolfpack jumped out to an early advantage by taking the 125 and 133 pound weight classes. North Carolina State also claimed victories in the 149, 157, 197 and heavyweight classes. Sean Markey earned a victory for the Bulldogs at 141 pounds with a pin at 2:42 in the match. Derik Neitz won 8-6 at 165 pounds for The Citadel, Dan Thompson took an 11-5 match at 174 pounds and John Dickerson also was victorious for the Bulldogs at 184 pounds with a 6-2 win.

The Citadel won seven of the 10 weight classes against Newberry, including two pins by Michael Arias at 133 pounds and Sean Markey who had his second victory by fall of the day at 141. Derik Neitz won his second match of the day at 165 with a 4-1 victory and Dickerson also had his second triumph of the day with a 17-5 major decision at 184.

The grapplers will return to the action on Saturday, November 19, for the East Stroudsburg Open in East Stroudsburg, PA.
