The Citadel basketball team welcomed over 1,000 fans to McAlister Field House Tuesday night for the 15th annual Meet the Bulldogs. Pat Dennis and his squad signed autographs, held a three-point and slam-dunk contest, and scrimmaged to give fans an early look at the 2005-06 lineup.
Newcomer guard Chris Diasparra took the three-point crown as he drained 20 within one minute. Junior forward J'mel Everhart won the slam-dunk contest over sophomore forwards Demetrius Nelson and Warren McLendon. The white team then edged the blue team 17-12 in a 10 minute scrimmage.
Before the Dogs took the court, fans enjoyed free hot dogs and ice cream provided by Aramark, John Buck, and Pet milk.
The Citadel basketball won their first outing in an exhibition game against Limestone last week as they downed the Saints 80-64. The Bulldogs will begin the regular season this weekend as they travel to Raleigh, NC to participate in the Hispanic College Fund Classic hosted by NC State. The Dogs first face Delaware on Friday, November 18 with a 9 pm tip. They take on the Wolfpack on Saturday at 6 pm and then wrap-up the three-day tourney against Delaware at noon on Sunday.
The Bulldogs' first home game is slated for November 23 as they host Asbury College at 7:15 pm in McAlister Field House.
