Bulldogs Take Down Hatters 73-60

Raleigh, NC - Senior guard Dante Terry registered 21 points to lead The Citadel past Stetson 73-60 Sunday in the final round of the Hispanic College Fund Classic hosted by N.C. State. Terry was one of four players to put up double figures for the Bulldogs.

"I am very pleased with the way we played today," said head coach Pat Dennis. "We win games when we play smart basketball and we played smart basketball today."

The Citadel (1-2) got off to a slow start, trailing 13-7 with 13:18 left in the first half. The Dogs then went on a 9-0 run to take a 16-13 lead with just under seven minutes left before the break. Terry hit two-of-two free throws as Joseph Thompson added five to help put the Cadets ahead.

Stetson (0-3) took a slight 20-21 edge at the four minute mark, but Terry drained a three and junior J'mel Everhart and sophomore Demetrius Nelson each added two to give The Citadel a four point advantage at halftime, 27-23.

The Bulldogs dominated in the second half, outscoring the Hatters 46-37. With just under 10 minutes left in the game, Terry drained three consecutive threes before the Dogs broke for a 10-0 run to gain a solid 60-45 lead. The Hatters could only get within 12 before the final 73-60 defeat.

Will Hollomon posted 17 points to pace Stetson. E.J. Gordon and Anthony Register also gave a solid effort for the Hatters, scoring 12 points each.

Sophomore forward Donny McLendon was the second top scorer for The Citadel with 13 as Everhart and Thompson each registered 10. Everhart also grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Dogs.

The Bulldogs were 25-for-49 with a 51 percent shooting percentage compared to Stetson who shot 34.8 percent. The Cadets also registered a 69.6 shooting percentage from the charity stripe.

"We shot very well because we didn't take any bad shots," added Dennis. "We were patient and took 20-30 seconds off the clock on almost every possession."

During the three day Classic, sophomore Demetrius Nelson led with 36 points over the three game span. Terry was second with 33 while Everhart paced the Bulldogs in rebounds with 26. Terry drained five three's to claim the number eight spot on the all-time three-point field goal chart with 109. Terry needs 16 to catch Aaron Nichols who is currently seventh all-time.

The Citadel will return to Charleston to host Asbury College for its home opener on Wednesday, November 23 at 7:15 pm in McAlister Field House.
