Box Score

Charleston, SC - Senior guard Dante Terry and sophomore forward Warren McLendon paced the Bulldogs with 15 points apiece as The Citadel fell 74-57 to Charleston Southern Thursday night at McAlister Field House. The Buccanneer's Terrell Brown led all scorers with 21 points.

The Citadel (4-3) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead after neither team could score in the first two minutes of action. Warren McLendon began the scoring with a dunk as Terry followed up with a jumper before McLendon added four more points. The largest lead for the Bulldogs was in the 13th minute when sophomore forward Demetrius Nelson hit a slam dunk to put the Cadets up 13-4.

Charleston Southern (5-1) then went on a 14-5 run to tie the game up at 18 on a layup by Dwayne Jackson with 7:02 remaining in the half. From there, the lead changed four times before the Bucs went on a 10-0 run to go up 32-25 at the break. Terrell Brown posted 13 points in the first 20 minutes to help give Charleston Southern a seven point advantage.

"We got up, but then we made some horrible turnovers and they took control of the game," said head coach Pat Dennis. "They got off a lot of defensive stops and really limited our second shots."

From there, the Bucs never surrendered the lead as the Bulldogs could only pull within eight. Donnell Covington hit 12 points in the last 13 minutes of the second half to help solidify the win for the Bucs.

"We're not shooting very well and we're not getting looks," commented Dennis. "To their credit, their defense had a lot to do with that."

The Bucs hit 26 of 43 field goals for a 49.1 shooting percentage and were 17 of 24 behind the charity stripe. Three players reached double figures for Charleston Southern as Brown registered 21, Covington hit 12, all in the second half, and Dwayne Jackson posted 11.

The Bulldogs were 19 for 60 shooting 31.7 percent from the floor. The Cadets drained 16 of 20 free throws and tallied 10 steals to the Bucs' nine. Nelson led all rebounders with 11 boards.

The Citadel will stay at home to host Atlanta Christian College on Monday, December 5 at 5:00 pm in McAlister Field House.
