Charleston, S.C. -
Director of Athletics Les Robinson and The Citadel Football Head Coach Kevin Higgins has named Isaac Collins, formerly of the University of Delaware, to the Bulldog coaching staff as the new defensive coordinator and secondary coach.
Collins, who was Higgins' secondary coach during his tenure at Lehigh, spent one year at Delaware as the defensive backs coach. Prior to joining the staff at Delaware, he spent five seasons at Patriot Leagues members Holy Cross and Lehigh.
"We are happy to have Isaac join our coaching staff. He has a tremendous work ethic. He's an excellent teacher and has done a great job of game planning in the past," Higgins said. "We welcome him, his wife and children to the Bulldog family."
A 1994 graduate of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) with a degree in political science, Collins, 34, has spent his entire coaching career on the East Coast. He began at Hobart College in Geneva, NY in 1994 and served for five seasons as running backs coach, junior varsity head coach, and defensive backs coach until 1997. He also served as Hobart's defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and chairman of retention committee, and was assistant director of the Hobart Summer Football Camp.
Collins then moved up to the NCAA I-AA level in 1998, taking over as running backs coach at Columbia University in New York, N.Y. for the 1998 and 1999 seasons, while also serving a stint as wide receivers coach. During his coaching tenure Collins has directly coached 10 all-conference selections.
In addition to his coaching at the collegiate level, Collins served a summer National Football League Minority Fellowship with the New York Giants in 1999 and with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach young men who have the core values that we as coaches try to instill from a day-to-day basis. I'm very excited about that and the school's commitment to wanting to see The Citadel football program rise to even greater heights," Collins said. "I look forward to working with a great coaching staff and joining one of the toughest conferences in the country."
Originally from upstate New York, Collins was a four-year letterman at Rochester, serving as team captain as a senior in 1993 and earning conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1992. He is the second leading rusher in school history and was an all-conference selection in 1992 and 1993.
Collins, his wife, Ada, and children, Kayla (5) and Jaylen (4) will reside in Charleston.
