Charleston, S.C. -
The Citadel and Duquesne University go head-to-head for only the second time in the two schools' history on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. The last time these teams met was Dec. 30, 1965, when the Dukes defeated the Bulldogs in Pittsburgh, 86-60. Hoping to even the series, the Bulldogs are set to tip-off at 8 p.m.
Heading into Tuesday's match-up, the Bulldogs are 6-4 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference. Coming off a disappointing conference opener on Sunday at Western Carolina, where the Catamounts defeated the Dogs 83-57, they look to make a quick bound-back and come out with the win for The Citadel on Tuesday.
"This is going to be an exciting game for us," said The Citadel Head Coach Pat Dennis. "To play a school in the Atlantic 10 Conference with such a respectable basketball tradition as Duquesne, it will be a challenge, but one that we definitely look forward to taking on."
The Dukes, off to a rough start this season, are 1-6 in non-conference action and have not opened conference play. They are coming off their third consecutive loss on Dec. 17 against Youngstown State. Leading scorers for the Dukes are senior guard Bryant McAllister, averaging 15.8 points a game, and sophomore guard DeVario Hudson, who has led Duquesne in scoring in their last two games. Hudson is averaging 10.3 points a game and 12.4 in the last five match-ups.
Leading the Bulldogs in scoring is senior guard Dante Terry, who is averaging just less than 13 points a game. Look to see junior forward J'mel Everhart and sophomore forward Demetrius Nelson dominate the boards, while also scoring threats. The two forwards each recorded double-doubles in The Citadel's last home appearance against Webber International.
Bulldog senior guard Kevin Hammack is expected to see more playing time this week after he returned for the first time this season on Sunday. Hammack who has sat out the beginning portion of the season due to an injury, played 11 minutes, totaling six points, one blocked shot and two steals against the Catamounts.
Tuesday's game will be broadcasted live on The Citadel Sports Network (1450 AM) in Charleston, S.C. For an internet broadcast go to www.redzonemedia.com or www.goduquesne.com. Results will be available following the game at www.citadelsports.com.
