The Citadel men's rifle team clenched second place with an aggregate score of 4,347 behind SEARC rival N.C. State who took first with a total of 4,483 this past Saturday at the NCSU/VMI NCAA Match held in Raleigh, NC. The Citadel women placed fourth behind VMI with a total mark of 4, 139.
Freshman Steven Reis led the Bulldogs with a mark of 526 in smallbore and 567 in air rifle. Junior Evan Rishel was not far behind as he tallied 522 and 565. Freshman Kevin Medert and senior Jason Dickinson rounded out the scoring as Medert shot a 554 and 558 and Dickinson fired a 524 and 541.
The women's squad was led by senior Sarah Deuschle as she tallied a 482 in smallbore and a 566 in air rifle. Junior Amara Atella fired a 513 and 560. Junior Vanessa Swan and freshman Jacquelyn Pastick shot third and fouth, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Swan pulled in a mark of 517 in smallbore and 544 in air rifle as Pastick scored 440 and 517.
"Everyone shot a good match," commented head coach Bill Smith. "The conditions Saturday in Raleigh were very bad."
The Citadel rifle team will be back in action at home this Saturday, February 5 as they host Wofford in Deas Hall.
