The Citadel Track to Compete in the SoCon Indoor Championships This Weekend

Charleston, SC - The Citadel track team will conclude its indoor track and field regular season with the 2005 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Memorial Center of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26.

The two-day meet will feature 17 events such as the 60 meter dash, mile run, long jump, 4 x 400 meter relay, shot put, men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon. The Western Carolina women are currently first in the Southern Conference Power Rankings with Appalachian State leading the men.

The Citadel currently has eight participants in the top 10 rankings in six separate events. Junior Marcus Butler and sophomore Zach DiBois lead the men ranked fifth in the 800m and 35-lb. weight, respectively. Earlier this season, DiBois was named the men's indoor track and field performer of the week by the Southern Conference for the week of January 19, 2005 for his first place toss of 49'8.75'' in the 35 lb. weight throw in the Chapel Hill Invitational. Other Bulldogs in the rankings are junior Thomas Cummings and sophomore Matt Holmes. Cummings holds the number six spot in the 60m hurdles while Holmes is ranked sixth in the 5,000m.

Representing the women in the top ten are sophomore Stephanie McNeill, freshmen Tosha Sanders and Allison Taylor as well as senior Kelly Pesterfield. McNeill holds the number three ranking in the shot put while Sanders, Taylor and Pesterfield rank third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pentathlon.

The Citadel also has representatives ranked in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile run, long jump, shot put and the 20lb. weight lists. The men are ranked fifth in the power rankings entering the weekend as the women are in the number eight spot.
