The Citadel tennis team picked up their second win of the season after defeating UNCW 5-2 Saturday afternoon, at the Donald C. Bunch Tennis Courts.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs (2-4) clenched the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to give The Citadel a 1-0 advantage over the Seahawks (0-3). Freshmen Daniel Dossetor and James Eason defeated Caio Piacentini and Alvaro Pentacado at the number one spot, 8-4, while the number two pair, juniors Nick Medica and David Lara, downed Taylor Vaughn and Aaron Rassell, 8-2.

The Bulldogs then went on to win singles as they took four of six matches. Sophomore Derek Jose and Medica won at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively. Jose trounced Aaron Rassell 6-1, 6-1 as Medica picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Taylor Vaughn. Eason then clenched the match at the number three spot, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 to solidify the win for the Bulldogs and make the score 4-0.

The Seahawks won at the number one and two contests, but Lara defeated Grant Holland 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to make the final 5-2.

"I thought we played really hard today," stated head coach Toby Simpson. "The team is really coming together and hopefully this will give us the momentum we need heading into the next match."

Up next, The Citadel will play host to Wofford Saturday March 5 at 1:00pm at the Donald C. Bunch Courts as the Seahawks travel to take on The College of Charleston on Monday, Febuary 28 at 1:00pm.
