The Citadel track team wrapped up its 2005 indoor track season as they finished tenth in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships hosted by East Tennessee State this past weekend. Freshman Tosha Sanders set the pace for the Bulldogs as she set two school records.
Sanders broke her own 60m hurdle record of 10.01 with a time of 9.71 while also adding three hundred points to her pentathlon record scoring 2708 and placing seventh at the championships.
Sophomore Stephanie McNeill broke Carol Hamlin's 20lb. weight throw record by two feet with a toss of 46-8. McNeill also place sixth in the shot put with a throw of 42-8.25.
Freshman Jodi Whittle also broke her own 400m school record bettering her 60.22 with a time of 59.91. Whittle was also a member of the 4 x 400 relay team that placed eighth in the championships and set a school record with a time of 4:09.46. Other components of the 4 x 400 squad were Sanders, junior Miriam Crawford and freshman Christine DeVasto.
Of the seventeen women who participated in the Southern Conference Championships, 12 turned in personal best times.
"The women did a super job and had a great meet," commented head coach Jody Huddleston. "This team is very young and will break many school records over the next couple of years."
Next up, the Bulldogs will open their outdoor track season on Friday, March 11 with a trip to Conway, SC to compete in the Coastal Eye Opener hosted by Coastal Carolina.
