Citadel-Princeton Announce Football Match-ups

Feb. 8, 2005

Charleston, SC - Citadel Director of Athletics Les Robinson and Princeton Director of Athletics Gary Walters announced Tuesday afternoon that the Bulldogs and Tigers would play a home-and-away series in 2008 and 2009.

"We are excited about playing football against one of the premier academic institutions in America," Robinson stated. "Princeton and its athletic programs epitomize what the NCAA is all about, competition with the highest academic standards. The ability to play such a great school in a home and away series gives our alumni in the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast a wonderful opportunity to come out and support our football program."

The series will begin in Charleston in 2008, while the Bulldogs will travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers in 2009. Princeton joins Florida State (2005), Ole Miss (2005), Texas A&M (2006) and North Carolina State (2007) as the non-traditional out of conference teams that The Citadel will play in the upcoming years.

"We are absolutely delighted we've been able to reach an agreement to play each other in football. As everyone knows, the Citadel is a great academic and military institution with a storied history," Walters added. "Our competition represents a great opportunity for alumni in the southeastern part of the U.S. to see Princeton up close and personal."

The Bulldogs currently have one game available in 2006 with VMI, Charleston Southern and Texas A&M serving as the out of conference games. The Citadel opens the 2005 season on September 3rd against Lowcountry rival Charleston Southern.
