DAVIDSON, NC -
Davidson won eight of the nine matches contested Wednesday
afternoon in Knobloch Tennis Center to pull out a 6-1 victory over The
Citadel in men¹s tennis. The win moves Davidson to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in
the SoCon while the Bulldogs fall to 6-6 and 3-2.
For the sixth straight time, Davidson started off the match by winning the
doubles point. All three doubles teams were victorious for the ¹Cats
including junior Joe Cheaney and freshman Flaviu Simihaian at third doubles.
The tandem is 5-0 since being paired together in late February.
In singles, the Wildcats won three of the six contests in straight sets.
Junior Daniel Bermeo, recently named SoCon Player of the Week, earned one of
those triumphs with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win at number four singles. James Eason
picked up The Citadel¹s lone point of the day with a three-set victory over
sophomore John Bolton at third singles.
Davidson is right back in action tomorrow, March 17, when the Wildcats host
defending SoCon champ East Tennessee State. The Citadel plays tomorrow as
well at Charlotte. Both matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
