Chapel Hill, NC - The Citadel men's track and field team took home five top spots this past weekend as the men competed in the Tar Heel Opener hosted by the University of North Carolina that included teams from UNC, Duke, N.C. State and Boston University. Junior Thomas Cummings and sophomore Quintin Wright each clinched two first place finishes apiece for the Bulldogs.

Cummings took the number one spot in the 110 high hurdles with a 15.38, as well as in the 400 intermediate hurdles with a mark of 55.95. Both of his times moved Cummings into the top of the Southern Conference standings.

Wright's two victories came in the 100m and 200m with times of 10.91 and 22.02, respectively. The final first place finish came from freshman football player Clay Muirhead as he tossed a 129-5 in the hammer throw, a personal best.

Junior Marcus Butler notched a second place finish in the 800m with a personal best 1:55.77. Sophomore Will Wilson also clinched the number two slot with a 10:15.55 in the steeplechase.

Sophomore Thomas Pressley also had a pair of outstanding finishes, placing second in the 200m (22.11) and third in the 100m (10.93). Sophomore John Auer finished second in both hurdles races, running 16.71 for the 110 hurdles and 58.28 in the 400 hurdles. The Bulldogs also earned second place in the shot put as freshman Richard Crumpler had toss of 41-9.25 and the hammer as sophomore Alex Croskey threw a 121-2. Pressley, along with Cummings, is currently ranked first in two separate events in the SoCon rankings. Pressley holds the top spot in both the 100m and 200m, while Wright is currently ranked second in both the 100 and 200 events.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, April 2 as they travel to Furman University to compete against Furman, Davidson, College of Charleston and Mars Hill in the Furman Quad Meet.
