The Citadel tennis team extended their win streak to three as they defeated Elon 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the Earle Tennis Center. The Bulldogs improve to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Conference as Elon falls to 4-11, 0-6 SoCon.
The Citadel took the doubles matches at the No. 3 and 4 spots to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Derek Jose and freshman Ananda Sawmynaden won 8-4 in the No. 3 contest over Phoenix sophomore Sebastian Bredberg and junior George Memory. The Bulldogs' No. 2 duo, junior's David Lara and Nick Medica, then clenched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over sophomore Kyle Smialek and freshman Brian Edmundson.
In singles action, The Citadel won matches two through six to make the final score 6-1. The No. 5 contest sealed The Citadel's victory over Elon as Medica downed Smialek 6-3, 6-2. Sawmynaden held on to a tight match at No. 2 as he battled sophomore Austin Fenn through three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Bulldog freshman James Eason picked up his fifth straight victory as the No. 3 representative defeating Bredberg 6-4, 7-6.
Elon senior Promote Malasitt was the lone singles winner for the Phoenix as he picked up his 12th straight victory at the at No. 1 spot, defeating Dossetor 6-2, 7-6.
The Bulldogs will continue Southern Conference play as they travel to Chattanooga, TN to take on the Mocs on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00pm. Elon returns home to play host to Northern Colorado on April 2 at 11:00am.
