Charleston, SC -
The Citadel rode the comeback victory from No. 6 singles player Derek Jose to secure a 4-3 victory over Southern Conference foe Wofford Saturday afternoon on the Donald C. Bunch Courts at the Earle Tennis Center.
"This is a good win for a very young team," Citadel head coach Toby Simpson stated. "Derek did a great job after the rain-delay and really finished his opponent off to give us the win."
The Terriers and the Bulldogs were knotted at 3-3 with the match between Jose and Richard Cahi before the rains came and delayed the match for about two hours. Jose won the last three games in his match to seal the victory.
The Citadel (3-4, 1-0 SoCon) won at No. 1 doubles with the team of Daniel Dossetor and James Eason defeating Andrew Stubbs and Richard Cahi 8-6. The Bulldogs locked down the point as the No. 3 doubles team of Ananda Sawmynaden and Derek Jose knocked off Alec Wilson and Jeff Muthig. The Citadel got the final advantage as Dossetor won at No. 1 singles, David Lara won at No. 4 singles and Jose won at No. 6.
Wofford got singles victories from Brett Johnson (No.2), Chris Barlow (No. 3) and Alex Fridzon (No. 5).
The Citadel returns to action at 11:00 am on Sunday against Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State on the Donald C. Bunch Courts at the Earle Tennis Center.
