Citadel Tennis Falls to Chattanooga 6-1

April 3, 2005

Chattanooga, TN - The Citadel men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Southern Conference foe Chattanooga this past Saturday at the Manker Patten Tennis Club. The Mocs won the doubles point and five of six singles matches to claim the victory.

The win halts a three-match losing skid for UTC (15-7, 5-4 SoCon) and a three-match winning streak for the Bulldogs (9-8, 5-4).

Because of rain and high winds, the doubles portion of the match was played on the UTC indoor courts. The singles were played at the Manker Patten Tennis Club in Chattanooga.

Leading 1-0 after winning two of three doubles matches, the Mocs needed three sets in four of the six singles matches. They earned victories at all but the No. 1 singles position where Bulldog freshman Daniel Dossetor defeated Arturo Navarro 6-1, 7-6.

Ryan Fitzgerald won at No. 2, Mark Fynn at No. 3, Artyom Vlasenko at No. 4 and Tim Kutschera at No. 5. Freshman Michael Hangstefer, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., made his SoCon debut and defeated Derek Jose 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 6.

Kutschera's 6-0, 7-6 victory at No. 5 proved to be the clinching match.

The Mocs host Jacksonville State Wednesday at 3pm while the Bulldogs return home to face Florida A&M on Sunday, April 10 at 1pm at the Earle Tennis Center.
