Los Angeles, CA -
After consulting two specialists, including the team doctor of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Dallas McPherson, a former Citadel Bulldog, has opted for season-ending surgery to shave a bone spur in his left hip.
Dr. Thomas Byrd, the Titans' team doctor, will perform the arthroscopic procedure in Nash-ville, Tenn., on Tuesday, the Long Beach (Calif.) Press-Telegraph reported late Friday night.
McPherson has struggled at a .244 average in his first full season in the major leagues, having been bothered all season by back and groin injuries, but those could both be related to the hip injury.
Recovery time is expected to be around 12 weeks, leaving McPherson plenty of time to be ready for Angels spring training next year.
