The Citadel Volleyball 2005 Schedule Set

Aug. 5, 2005

Charleston, SC - Head volleyball coach Wendy Anderson and Senior Woman Administrator Kelly Simpson announced the Bulldogs' 2005 slate, which consists of 31 matches including 11 at home.

The Bulldogs will play in a tournament at NC State and in the All-Academy tournament at the Air Force Academy. The All-Academy tournament will feature teams from West Point, Annapolis, the Air Force Academy, The Citadel and several other senior military academies.

With the departure of East Tennessee State for the Atlantic Sun Conference the Southern Conference is left with 11 volleyball teams. This has led to a reformatting of both the regular season and the conference tournament. The Citadel will now play an 18 game conference schedule instead of the 16 that they used to play. The Bulldogs will play every SoCon opponent twice with the exception of Elon and UNC Greensboro, which they will play only once. In addition, all 11 teams will participate in the conference tournament.

"It is very exciting for us to have post-season opportunities," said Anderson. "It will be a great experience for the girls."

"Even without the change, I feel that we would have had a good chance of making the tournament. I'm very confident in the work that the girls have put in during the off-season and in their improved abilities."

The Bulldogs will open up the season and SoCon play when they host the College of Charleston on August 26 in McAlister Field House. They will close the regular season with a home match against Georgia Southern on November 12.
