The Citadel Football Driven Inside on Day One

Aug. 8, 2005

Charleston, SC - The Citadel's first fall practice under first-year head coach Kevin Higgins was dampened by only the weather, as the Bulldogs' first day of preseason drills was pushed inside by inclement weather.

"Football is a game of adapting," Higgins stated. "We'll just have to be flexible and take the players inside for a walk through. It was unfortunate that we had to alter our schedule because of the weather, but we can't control the it so we had to make the move indoors."

The Bulldogs' first four practices, including this afternoon's, will be in shorts and shells according to NCAA legislation that began prior to the 2004 season. Coach Higgins will get his first look at his team in full pads on Friday, August 12.

Higgins and his new staff will look to see what the players retained for spring drills and last season, as well as how much the learned over the summer.

"We are trying to find out how well our players can adapt to a new situation," Higgins added. "Today is a good day to make sure everyone is organized and get going."

The Bulldogs will continue to prepare for Charleston Southern, the Bulldogs' opponent on September 4, as they return to the practice field tomorrow afternoon for day two of the 2005 preseason camp.
