The Citadel Announces 2005-06 Wrestling Schedule

Sept. 15, 2005

Charleston, SC - The Citadel grapplers will be back on the mats of McAlister Field House in November as head wrestling coach Rob Hjerling announced the 2005-06 schedule

"We are excited to get the season under way," Hjerling said.

The quest for a third Southern Conference championship begins when the Bulldogs host North Carolina State and Newberry College on November 12. The Wolfpack finished third in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season.

The Citadel travels to Stroudsburg, PA, for the East Stroudsburg Open on November 19 before taking part in two invitational tournaments in early December, including a return to the Las Vegas Invitational, December 2-3.

After a break for exams and the holidays, the Bulldogs travel to Greensboro, NC, to take part in what is fast becoming one of the top events in collegiate wrestling, the Southern Scuffle, December 29-30. The Citadel finished 10th out of 23 teams at the 2004 event.

On January 9, the Citadel hosts Duke and Campbell at McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs then head to Hampton, VA, for the prestigious Virginia Duals, January 14-15.

Following matches on January 21 against Pennsylvania and North Carolina in Raleigh, NC, The Citadel opens the Southern Conference schedule with a home date against Chattanooga on January 24.

A SoCon road match at VMI and home slates versus Appalachian State and Davidson are on tap in February, as well as a trip to the All-Academy Championships in Kings Point, NY, and a non-conference away meet with Gardner-Webb on February 21. The SoCon Championships are scheduled for March 5 in Lexington, VA.

The Bulldogs are coming off a campaign that saw them finish second in the Southern Conference Tournament to Chattanooga. Senior Travis Piccard and junior Levi Duyn return to the program after both qualified for the NCAA Championships last March, where Piccard came just one victory shy of becoming The Citadel's first All-American wrestler. 2005-06 Schedule
