2006 The Citadel Baseball Schedule Set

Sept. 8, 2005

Charleston, SC -

Citadel head baseball coach Fred Jordan announced the 2006 schedule Thursday afternoon. The 2006 slate includes 38 home games as well as 16 games against teams that reached the NCAA Regionals last season. This year's schedule is highlighted by two games against South Carolina and includes a three-game season finale with rival College of Charleston.

The Bulldogs will open on the road in Conway, SC as they face Virginia and Campbell February 10-11 in a tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina. Coastal will then make a trip to Riley Park for The Citadel's home opener on February 15.

The Citadel again hosts two early season shootouts. The Bulldogs will face off against Richmond, Nebraska and North Carolina State during the Homewood Suites Shootout presented by Trademark Properties February 17-19. Hofstra then visits Riley Park for a two-game set February 21-22 before the Dogs host LeMoyne, Ball State and Towson in the Homewood Suites Tournament presented by the Charleston Crab House February 24-26.

In March, the schedule is highlighted by a trip to Las Vegas, NV as the Bulldogs will take on the University of Nevada at Las Vegas for a three game series from the 17-19.

The Bulldogs' 16 games against NCAA Regional teams include four versus the College of Charleston, three in a home series with Furman, a home and road contest with South Carolina, Winthrop and N.C. State as well as one game against Virginia, Coastal Carolina, and Nebraska in early season tourneys.

Four of The Citadel's first six games pit them against NCAA Regional qualifiers as they open the season with Virginia and then host Nebraska for the fifth game of the year, who finished the 2005 season in third place at the College World Series.

"This year's schedule is a tremendous challenge and opportunity," said Jordan. "We look forward to competing against some of the top teams in the country and are very excited about the caliber of talent that will be visiting Riley Park." The 2006 season marks the 17th consecutive year that The Citadel will host the Southern Conference Tournament at Riley Park slated to run May 24-27. The Southern Conference Tournament champion is awarded an automatic bid to an NCAA Regional.
