Spartanburg, S.C. Senior Laura Hewston has been named the Southern Conference Co-Runner of the Week after her strong performance at the Walt Disney World Classic on Oct. 7. The honor is the first for the Summerville, S.C. native as she led the team to a ninth place finish out of more than 40 schools.

Hewston finished 39th in a field of 287 runners at the Disney Invitational.  Her time of 19:49 was 32 seconds better than her time last year in the same race.  Teams included nationally ranked BYU (6th in the latest poll), Central Florida, South Florida, Hofstra and Stetson.

Hewston is the second Citadel cadet-student-athlete to win a SoCon Athlete of the Week award this year. Junior Duran Lawson won the award after his performance against Chattanooga on Sept. 30, leading The Citadel to a 24-21 win against the Mocs.
