Charleston, S.C. The Citadel women's soccer team will play host to the Chattanooga Mocs on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at WLI Field. The Bulldogs return to action for their final three regular season matches after having a week off.
The Citadel (1-15-1, 0-7-0 SoCon) vs. Chattanooga (3-10-2, 0-7-1 SoCon)
Sunday will mark the sixth meeting between the Mocs and Bulldogs. The Mocs hold a 5-0 advantage over the Bulldogs in the all-time series including a 4-0 win last season in Tennessee.
Scouting the Mocs
Chattanooga is coming off of a 4-1 loss to league foe College of Charleston at Patriots Point. The Mocs' last win came against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 13 at home as they blanked Tenn. Tech, 3-0. The Mocs have only won one road contest as they are 1-5 as the visitor. Nikki Brannen and Chelsea Hurst lead the Chattanooga attack as both have scored four goals and notched four assists.
The Bulldogs and the SoCon
The Dogs are still in search of their first Southern Conference victory as the young program has not been able to defeat a SoCon foe. The Bulldogs have, however, tied a conference opponent as they battled East Tennessee State to a 2-2 draw in 2004. Last season, the Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to Elon in an overtime match at Johnson Hagood Stadium, 3-2. The Bulldogs came close to their first SoCon victory this season as they took Wofford to two overtimes and fell, 2-1 to the Terriers on Oct. 6 at WLI Field.
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs took a short break before playing out their final three games of the regular season. The last time the Bulldogs were between the pipes was against the College of Charleston on Oct. 15 where the Cougars earned a 4-0 victory at Patriots Point.

The Citadel hosts its final regular season game of 2006 on Friday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. at WLI Field. The Bulldogs will celebrate senior day as they face the UNC Greensboro Spartans. The Dogs then hit the road to face Furman for their final contest of the regular season Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m.
Ornelas Leaving Mark at The Citadel
Freshman Rachelle Ornelas scored her sixth goal of the season against Wofford on Oct. 6 to send the match in overtime. Her six scores put her name in The Citadel record books as she is fifth all-time in season goals, only one shy of Lauren Merchant and Kelly Pesterfield who are tied in fourth with seven. The all-time leader in season goals is Kelly Pesterfield who netted 17 in 2001. The freshman is also tied with Shawna Hartman in fifth place in career goals, while Miriam Crawford is in fourth with 11. Ornelas' six goals tie her for fourth place in the SoCon while she is tied for eighth in points.
Bunnell Sets Career Record in Saves
Junior keeper Brit Bunnell recorded 10 saves against Elon Oct. 13 to become the new career leader at The Citadel. Entering the game against the Phoenix, she was six shy of Angie Ellenwood's previous record of 226. Bunnell now stands alone as the career leader in saves and still has four games left this season and another year of eligibility. Bunnell and freshman Emily Green are both tied for seventh place in the SoCon with 59 saves this season.
