Phoenix, Ariz. Former Citadel first baseman Chip Cannon was named the Arizona Fall League's player of the week. Cannon was given the honor after his performance with the Desert Dogs during the week of Oct. 22.
Cannon hit .429 (9-21) with four home runs and seven runs batted in (RBI) last week for the East Division-leading Desert Dogs. The 24-year-old Charleston, South Carolina native leads the Fall League with seven home runs and ranks second with a .385 batting average and 16 RBI. He also has walked 10 times.
The 6-5, 215-pound Cannon was the Blue Jays' eighth-round selection in the June, 2004 draft. He hit .248 with 27 home runs at Class-A New Hampshire (Eastern League) in 2006. He owns 69 home runs and 208 RBI in three minor-league seasons.
Cannon's teammate, Marcus McBeth, was also named pitcher of the week.
