The Citadel Basketball Returns to Conference Action

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel basketball returns to conference action against Georgia Southern on Saturday, Feb. 11 in Statesboro, Ga. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse.

After coming so close to conference wins in their last couple of match-ups, the Bulldogs (7-16 overall; 0-10 SoCon) are coming off a big win against Savannah State on Tuesday at McAlister Field House. The Citadel, who had loss 13 consecutive games, broke their streak with the 80-73 defeat of the Tigers. The Bulldogs' last win was on Dec. 15 against Webber International. Still without a conference win, the Bulldogs hope that Tuesday's win will get things going for the team that has struggled in conference action.

Everhart, who led The Citadel in a great second half effort to claim the win against Savannah State, ended the first half with five points and six boards and came back to lead the Bulldogs hitting 7-of-8 shots in the second period, totaling 20 points 11 boards, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the night. Tuesday's performance was Everhart's sixth double-double of the season and second consecutive double-double.

Also making significant contributions for The Citadel were senior forward Matt Davis who recorded a career high of six steals and senior guard Dante Terry who tied his career high in assists with six and ended the night with 12 points.

Georgia Southern (16-7 overall; 7-3 SoCon), is on a four-game winning streak, with their last win against Western Carolina on Monday, 72-67, at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles are in first place in the South Division of the SoCon, but ties Davidson with the same conference record.

Saturday's match-up will be second meeting of the season and the the 34th of the series for The Citadel and GSU. Earlier in the season on Jan. 7, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs, 83-65, at McAlister Field House. Eagles's senior guard Elton Nesbitt scored a season high 33 points to lead GSU to their first conference win of the season, 83-65. Nesbitt shot 11-18, including 7-12 from outside the arc. His seventh three-pointer tied his season high, improving the team game total to 11 from three-point range for the night, also a team season high.

The last time the two teams played in Statesboro, the Eagles evened the season series, 115-81. The Bulldogs hope to do the same as they take on GSU Saturday night for their last conference road trip before ending the season at Wofford on Feb. 25.
