Charleston, S.C. -
The Citadel basketball's junior forward J'mel Everhart was named the Anaconda's The Rock Player of the Week for games played Feb. 21-26, announced Monday by the Southern Conference. Everhart, who is the first Bulldog this season to receive the honor, shares it with Appalachian State's D.J. Thompson.
Everhart, 6-5, 185-pound from Tyler, Texas, was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to a comeback overtime victory over Wofford, 84-40, on Saturday, for their first conference win of the season. Going into the half with only two points and two boards, Everhart finished the game with 18 points, 15 boards and one huge block and rebound in overtime to seal the win for The Citadel. It was his seventh double-double of the season. He also had two assists and a steal in Saturday's upset over the Terriers.
Earlier in the week, Everhart was the leading scorer in The Citadel's win over Savannah State, 70-61, at Tiger Arena. He totaled 17 points, two blocks and a steal in an exciting win that was highlighted by two Everhart back-to-back dunks on Wednesday.
Last week, Everhart averaged 17.5 points, nine boards and 1.5 blocks, shooting 59 percent in two games, leading the Bulldogs to two back-to-back victories. After Saturday's 15-rebound game, Everhart moved into eighth place on The Citadel's all-time rebounds in a career chart with 634, bumping Cliff Washburn, 632 (1999-02) down to ninth and Max Mombollet, 615 (2001-04) to 10th.
