The Citadel will close out the 2006 men's tennis regular season Friday afternoon when they travel to Boone, N.C., to face Appalachian State. The match has significant implications upon seedings in the 2006 Southern Conference Tournament for both teams. With a win, The Citadel could be seeded as high as fourth but a loss could drop them as far down as sixth in the SoCon Tournament, which will be held at The Citadel on April 20-23.
Appalachian State (9-9, 1-6 SoCon) needs a win to stay out of the conference cellar. The Citadel (10-10, 4-4 SoCon) can finish as high as fourth in the conference with a win over App. State and a Furman win over Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs have had their share of close calls in 2006 as The Citadel has played in six matches with a final score of 4-3. That number goes to seven when you included The Citadel's 4-2 loss at the hand of Richmond, where the doubles point was not played.
