Charleston, S.C. -
The Citadel men's tennis team can clinch the fourth seed in the SoCon Tournament Friday with a win over the Mountaineers of Appalachian State. Furman defeated Chattanooga Thursday afternoon, 5-2, to give the Bulldogs the chance to finish as high as fourth. The Citadel and App. State square off in Boone, N.C., Friday at 1 p.m.
Appalachian State (9-9, 1-6 SoCon) needs a win to stay out of the conference cellar. The Citadel (10-10, 4-4 SoCon) can finish as high as fourth in the conference with a win over App. State and a Furman win over Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs have had their share of close calls in 2006 as The Citadel has played in six matches with a final score of 4-3. That number goes to seven when you included The Citadel's 4-2 loss at the hand of Richmond, where the doubles point was not played.
