Charleston, S.C. -
Senior Nick Medica recently achieved what very few students - let alone student-athletes - are able to achieve throughout their collegiate careers: graduating college in four years with a 4.0 grade point average. Medica graduated as the second highest cadet this spring despite having to overcome all odds: the rigors of a student, the rigors of an athlete, the rigors of being a cadet, and not being able to play his sophomore year as he lost his eye in a freak accident.
The three-time Academic All-American played three of his four years at The Citadel on the men's tennis team, missing his sophomore year recovering from his injury. The recent graduate of the Military College of South Carolina also enjoys competing in Iron Man competitions.
"It's quite an accomplishment to finish four years of college with a perfect grade point average," said head coach Toby Simpson. "It's tough to achieve that even as a regular student, let alone a student-athlete at a military college. Despite adversity, Nick has worked hard to achieve the goals he set out for. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
Medica, who played most of the 2006 season at No. 5 singles, graduated from The Citadel with a degree in Accounting, and is a nominee for Academic All-American honors this year.
