Nick Medica and James Eason Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel's Nick Medica and James Eason were honored Thursday as the tennis duo was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team. The two were the only Southern Conference athletes awarded the honor while Medica, who recently graduated as the second-highest ranking cadet, was the only athlete in the district to record a 4.0 GPA.

Medica, who finished his senior year in 2006, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team as he graduated from The Citadel with a perfect academic record, earning a degree in Accounting. The recent graduate from Atlanta, Ga., played most of the 2006 season in the No. 5 singles spot. Medica attained his perfect academic record despite suffering an eye injury before his sophomore season that left him without any sight in one eye in a freak accident at home. After spending his sophomore year recovering, Medica returned to the courts his junior year to become a large contributor to the team's efforts.

Eason, the most decorated member of the tennis team, was named to the Academic All-District Second Team as he recently finished his sophomore year with the Bulldogs. The Christchurch, New Zealand-native currently holds a 3.58 grade point average as he is working towards a degree in Biology. Eason was named to the All-Southern Conference Singles Second Team, the All-Southern Conference Doubles First Team with fellow sophomore Daniel Dossetor, was twice named the SoCon Athlete of the Week during the 2006 campaign and was named March's SoCon Athlete of the Month. Eason finished the 2006 campaign as the only Southern Conference tennis player to record a perfect 9-0 record in conference singles play.

Medica is in the running for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors, which will be announced in July. Eason is eligible for other academic awards and will be returning to The Citadel for his junior year in the fall.
