Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Basketball Head Coach Ed Conroy announced Friday the signing of Vaughn Wilson, of Hampton, Va., as the second recruit to commit to the Bulldog basketball program for the 2006-07 season.
“I'm really excited about what Vaughn brings to our program in terms of quickness, leadership, competitiveness and his ability to score,” Conroy said.
Wilson, a 5-10, 171-pound point guard played for Nansemond River High School in Suffolk, Va. for three years, leading the Warriors to first team all-region honors during his senior season. Named first team All-SE District for the second consecutive season, Wilson averaged 18.9 points and 5.0 boards, while leading the region with 6.8 assists and 4.3 steals per game during his senior year.
Wilson was also named third team all-region his junior year, first team all-region his senior year and Most Valuable Player during both his junior and senior seasons. He totaled 953 career points during his three seasons, while leading his team to three consecutive district championship titles, recording 63 wins and 16 losses over the three years.
“He comes from a successful high school program and knows what it takes to win,” Conroy added. “We're looking forward to him bringing those leadership qualities to our program and making a significant impact on the team.”
Coached by Ed Young, Wilson was recently named District Player of the Year on VirginiaPreps.com, while being selected to play in four senior all-star games and being named city Player of the Year.
Wilson is the second player to sign a National Letter-of-Intent since Conroy took over the helm of Bulldog basketball in April. Wilson will be among the corps of cadets in the fall and intends on majoring in psychology.
