Carolyn Geiger Named Head Volleyball Coach

Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Athletics Department, along with Senior Woman Administrator Kelly Simpson, has named Carolyn (Cally) Geiger to be the head volleyball coach for the Bulldogs. Geiger becomes the third coach in the program's history and will begin her duties immediately.

Geiger has spent the past couple years as the official scorer for The Citadel Volleyball, entering that job after four years as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston. She is a 1999 graduate of UNC Asheville where she received her Bachelor's of Science in environmental science. Geiger was a four-year starter for UNCA and was team captain her senior year.

"It is an honor and a privilege to have been selected as the head volleyball coach at The Citadel," said Geiger. "I am looking forward to this upcoming season and building a successful program. It's a privilege to be at a school with such great academic standards and the tradition that surrounds The Citadel is unmatched."

Geiger's coaching experience includes four years at the College of Charleston, where she helped lead the Cougars to the school's first ever NCAA Tournament appearance for a women's athletic program, and coaching the 15-and-under club team for the Charleston Juniors, serving as assistant coach of the Biltmore Volleyball Club in 1995 and assisting with practices for the Biltmore Blaze Jr. Volleyball Club in 1999.

"Cally has served as our official scorer for the past few years and her intimate knowledge of the school, the program and the players will allow her to hit the ground running on her first day," said Simpson. "She will strive to continue to build the program and improve upon what has already been put in place in the program's short lifespan. I look forward to the future of The Citadel Volleyball program under her direction."

Geiger was named Most Outstanding Player in 1999 at UNCA and was named to the All-Big South Conference First Team in 1998. She became UNC Asheville's all-time kills leader and all-time service aces leader and earned Player of the Week honors for the Big South Conference in 1998. The Pennsylvania native was also named Most Valuable Player of the 1998 College of Charleston Invitational.
