The John Monroe Johnson Holliday Alumni Center

Holliday Alumni Center

The John Monroe Johnson Holliday Alumni Center on Hagood Avenue opened in September, 2000. The 30,000-square-foot facility is named in honor of a member of the Class of 1936 who served on The Citadel Board of Visitors for more than 30 years and, in 1992, gave the lead gift to build a center for alumni. He was the youngest person to become a member of the Corps of Cadets, entering at age 15. The Holliday Alumni Center includes a grand foyer, gift shop, visitors' center, two courtyards, the Courvoisie Banquet Hall, the Renken Dining Room and the McKissick Library.

With the opening of the Holliday Alumni Center, the Citadel Alumni Association has created one of Charleston's premier places for receptions, banquets and other gatherings. The Holliday Alumni Center houses alumni and fundraising organizations for The Citadel as well as a gift shop, visitors center, library, catering kitchen, banquet hall and two courtyards.

In addition to its alumni functions, the center will fill an immediate need by providing a staging area for the thousands of visitors who come to the campus each year in busses, vans and cars.

Fundraising for the $3.5 million facility has included the purchase of bricks inscribed with the names of classes, alumni or friends who are being honored through donations.

The named areas in the Holliday Alumni Center include the McKissick Library, the Renken Dining Room, The Courvoisie Banquet Hall, The Tilghman Courtyard, and the Alumni Courtyard and Memorial Wall.
