Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Athletics Department and Basketball Head Coach Ed Conroy named Andy Fox, formerly of Tennessee, assistant basketball coach. Fox is Conroy's second assistant coach hired since taking over helm in April.
The Iowa native most recently served as a graduate assistant for Bruce Pearl at the University of Tennessee, where during the past season he helped the Vols capture the SEC East Championship, earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and sign a top-five recruiting class nationally.
Fox broke into the coaching during the 2004-2005 season as a graduate assistant for Buzz Peterson at Tennessee. Conroy was also a member of the Tennessee staff in 2004-2005. At Tennessee, Fox's responsibilities included general correspondence with recruits, maintaining the recruiting database, opponent scouting, on-campus recruiting, video operations, coordination of summer camps, student-athlete academic support, and various administrative duties.
"I am very excited that Andy has chosen to join our staff," Conroy said. "He is a tremendous worker, very organized and detailed. Andy is also very knowledgeable about basketball and does an excellent job in teaching the game. He will be a great addition to our staff and I look forward to working with him to achieve our goals."
Fox recently completed his master's in sports psychology from Tennessee's Sports Studies program in May. He earned his bachelor degree in 2004 in Economics/Business and Fitness from Cornell College (IA), where he played basketball for four years. During his junior season, he led the Rams to their second best record in the last 40 years of basketball at the school. Fox was a two-year captain, earned IIAC All-Conference honors in 2004, and finished his career second all-time in assists in school history.
Fox brings extensive camp and youth league experience to The Citadel staff. From 2002 to 2004, Fox spent his summers working basketball camps around the country. His experience working as a counselor includes serving on the camp staffs at Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Northern Iowa, Snow Valley, and also at the legendary Morgan Wootten camp.
"I appreciate the opportunity that Coach Conroy has given me to be a part of his staff at The Citadel. I am eager to get to work with our cadet-student-athletes and do everything I can to aid them in accomplishing their goals," Fox said. "Coach Conroy has the ideal background, experience, and training to bring Championships to the fans of the Citadel."
Originally from Bettendorf, Iowa, Fox attended Davenport Assumption High School where he first met Conroy in the summer of 1999 as a camper at a basketball camp run by Conroy, an Assumption alum. A 2000 graduate of Assumption, Fox was a member of Back to Back Class 3A state championship basketball teams his junior and senior years. In addition he was recognized as the U.S. Marine Corps Athlete of the Year as a high school senior.
