Hampton, Va. Freshman Taylor Stanke was on fire Saturday morning, notching 11 kills and serving up three aces, as The Citadel (3-2) rolled to a 3-0 win over Winston-Salem State (0-11). The Bulldogs have now won three straight and are one win away from matching their 2005 season win total and gave the Bulldogs second place at the Hampton Invitational.
Stanke's 11 kills led all hitters in the match while she hit .286 and posted one block assist. The Citadel defense had a solid day as three Bulldogs Ashley Winter (12), Samantha Parisi (10) and Rachel Sanders (10) all hit the double-digit mark in kills.
“Coming from a three-match day, we did a good job of doing what we needed to do to win,” said head coach Carolyn Geiger. “We mixed things up on the court and were able to achieve our first three-game win of the season. I am pleased with our effort and performance today.”
The Citadel hit for .177 on the day while the Rams only hit .068. Senior Kim Cooper recorded 3.5 blocks on the day, including two block solos. Parisi added three block assists to her stellar defensive effort and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
