Bulldog Golf Finishes 24th at Great Smokies Intercollegiate

Waynesville, N.C. Freshman Kate Hardina lead the way for the Bulldogs scoring a 81 and 91 in the first and second rounds of the Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate as The Citadel finished 24th at the 36-hole tournament hosted by Western Carolina. The tournament was played at the par-72, 5,920-yard Waynesville Country Club.

The Bulldogs finished with a total team score of 716 (359-357), 15 lower than their 2006 performance when they shot a total score of 735. Christine Clark and Kasey Owens followed closely behind Hardina, with Clark scoring a 176 and Owens a 176. Clark's first round score of 87 ties her season and career low score. Sheri Rockefeller and Elizabeth Penn-Sanders rounded out the team scores.

Southern Conference-member Chattanooga rallied from its fourth-place standing after Saturday's opening round, making up five strokes to win the tournament. First-round individual leader, South Alabama's Elin Andersson, held on to claim the individual championship with a two-day total of 141.

The Bulldogs will be back in action October 15-16 at the Spider Invitational in Richmond, Va. All of the latest news and results from the women's golf team can be found at www.CitadelSports.com.
