Sophomores Lead The Citadel in a Rain-Soaked Day at the Walt Disney World Classic

Orlando, Fla. Despite extremely wet and muddy conditions, The Citadel cross country team recorded a successful day at the Walt Disney World Classic as the men's team finished 12th and the women's team placed 14th out of 44 teams. Sophomores led both teams with the second-year cadets finishing as the top two runners for The Citadel in both the men's and women's races.

Sophomore Daniel Knight led the men with a season-breakout performance, running a personal record 26:57 as he finished 47th out of over 300 runners. Sophomore Brendan Kight followed Knight by finishing 57th, running 27:11. Senior Rob Isaac overcame early season injuries to place 86th with a time of 27:50, finishing third among the Cadets.

With over 300 runners in the men's field, the women were left with a course that was not only wet, but also incredibly muddy. Despite running in ankle-deep mud, Sophomore Katheryn Gatewood still ran an impressive 19:49, placing 70th out of the 366-member field in the women's race. Sophomore Natalie Wolin was right on Gatewood's heels, placing 71st with a time of 19:51.

The Bulldogs return home to run in the Lowcountry Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern, on Oct. 13 on Johns Island. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. with the men starting at 11:45 a.m.
