McNeill Makes History Again, Sets Weight Throw Record

Clemson, S.C. Senior Stephanie McNeill set a school record and Southern Conference leading mark in the 20lb. weight throw as The Citadel closed out the Clemson Invitational Saturday. McNeill topped her own school record by almost two feet in the prelims then added another foot and a half in the finals to her top mark.

McNeill finished fourth, just inches behind three of the top throwers from Clemson and Georgia Tech. McNeill stood in fourth after the preliminary rounds with a then-school record mark of 54' 6” in the weight throw, topping her previous school record mark of 52' 10.5”. McNeill added to that in the finals with a fourth place finish throw of 55' 11” which also goes down as the longest mark set by a Southern Conference athlete this season.

Personal best throws were also set on the men's side as senior Alex Croskey recorded a new personal best mark of 46' 0” in the 35lb. weight throw as he finished sixth. Freshman Kenny Stephens followed him with a 10th place mark of 32' 4.25”.

The Citadel's middle and long distance runners also notched a stellar day as freshman Natalie Wolin fell just short of a school record in the 3,000m, finishing 12th with a time of 10:55.64. Wolin's time is the second-fastest 3k time in school history and was followed by sophomore Erin Ritter's 13th place time of 10:559.59, placing her third in school history.

In the men's 3k, senior Will Wilson led with a personal best time of 9:04.15, topping his previous best by more than 10 full seconds as he finished seventh. Freshman Brendan Kight's personal best time of 9:10.34 earned him a ninth-place finish. Senior Charles Kutz also recorded a personal best mark as he finished 14th with a time of 9:17.67

In the men's 400m, Jonathan Vallejo placed 18th with a season best time of 50.99 while Bryan Hladik recorded a personal best time of 51.85 to finish 31st.
