RALEIGH, N.C. The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Asheboro's Rob Lyerly and Broc Sutton, as well as Chris Swauger of Thomasville were named the Rawlings Tri-Hitters of the Week, while Fayetteville's Brian Feekin and Justin Lilly of Outer Banks were honored as Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week four of action (June 25 July 1).
Lyerly, a freshman from Campbell, started all six games for the Copperheads, finishing with a league-best .583 average. Of his 14 hits, five were doubles and one was a home run, helping him to rack up seven RBIs and six runs scored. Furthermore, Lyerly finished with an impressive 22 total bases, was walked five times, and sported a high .917 slugging percentage and .655 on-base percentage. He also tacked on a stolen base on the week.
Fellow Asheboro teammate, Sutton, a freshman at East Carolina, started and played in five games on the week, finishing with a .467 average. He tallied seven hits, including a double and a triple, while also scoring three runs and driving in six RBIs. Sutton featured 10 total bases, a slugging percentage of .667 and on-base percentage of .640. Furthermore, opposing pitchers walked Sutton eight times, while he too, had a stolen base.
Meanwhile, Swauger, a junior from The Citadel, featured a .423 batting average in six games started for the HiToms. He tallied 11 hits, including a double and five home runs three of which came in the June 29 game at Spartanburg to go with league-bests: 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Swauger also notched a league-best in total bases (27) and slugging percentage (1.038), while sporting a .467 on-base percentage, two walks and a stolen bag.
On the mound, Feekin made one appearance for Fayetteville on the week, going nine innings to pick up the win and finish with a 1-0 record and perfect 0.00 ERA. The 6-6, 235-pound freshman from Nebraska gave up only one hit, no runs, while walking two and striking out six.
In Outer Banks, Lilly continued his success for the Daredevils. In one appearance, the 6-4, 220-pound junior from Campbell went 7 2/3 innings pitched, allowing just a single hit, while walking two and striking out an impressive 10 batters. Stats like those gave Lilly a perfect 0.00 ERA and 1-0 record on the week.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league, now in its 11th season. Featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, the CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months.
