Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Basketball team will play their first of five consecutive home games when they take on the Georgia Southern Eagles in Southern Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 12 at McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs (5-9 overall; 0-5 SoCon) will look to repeat history having defeated the Eagles (10-5 overall; 3-2 SoCon) last season at McAlister Field House in a thrilling 74-69 overtime win. Saturday's matchup is the 38th meeting between the two schools dating back to 1961. Georgia Southern leads the series over The Citadel, 22-15, claiming the last two matchups, 81-62 in Statesboro and 62-46 in first round tournament action. Prior to last season's overtime win, the Bulldogs' most recent victories over the Eagles came in consecutive games in 2004 and 2005, 68-65 and 76-65, respectively.
The Citadel is coming off a three-game losing streak having played three SoCon games in a five-day stretch. Recording losses to Elon, Appalachian State and at UNC Greensboro, the Bulldogs are looking for a break against the Eagles before they take on cross-town rival College of Charleston on Monday before a CSS television audience.
Georgia Southern, who played on Thursday night, overcame an eight-point deficit in the second half to edge the College of Charleston 96-90 in overtime in Statesboro, snapping their three-game losing streak. The Eagles improved their conference record to three wins, with two previous victories over Furman and Appalachian State.
