Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Wrestling Team is looking to continue their dual meet success on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in McAlister Field House as they host Southern Conference foes VMI and Chattanooga. The Bulldogs will wrestle the Keydets of VMI at 6 p.m. followed by the Chattanooga Mocs.
The Cadets are coming off a commanding 23-9 victory over UNC Pembroke where they wrestled ten solid matches. The win coupled with their victory over Campbell improved The Citadel's home dual meet record to 2-2.
All three teams will be looking to pick up their first Southern Conference victory of the season. VMI and The Citadel were both bested by UNC Greensboro in their first SoCon dual meets of the season. Chattanooga will open its conference campaign in Charleston on Tuesday night against the Bulldogs.
The Mocs are currently ranked No. 19 in the nation by the USA Today/Intermat/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll and have been ranked as high as No. 10 this season. Helping Chattanooga bring national attention to the Southern Conference wrestling are their six top 20 nationally ranked grapplers, 125-pound No. 9 Javier Maldonado, No. 19 Steve Hromada at 133 pounds, No. 20 Joey Knox at 149 pounds and Seth Garvin at 157 pounds, and No. 14 Lloyd Ragers at 174 pounds and Matt Koz at 197 pounds. The Mocs 141-pound grappler Cody Cleveland is also receiving national attention as he is tied for fifth with the most technical falls in the country this season.
The wrestling staff and athletes will have a moment of silence at 6 p.m. prior to the start of the first dual in recognition of the life of former teammate Brian Ruff Jr.
