Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Football will travel to the upstate this weekend to take on the Furman Paladins in another Southern Conference matchup at Paladin Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18th. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game can be listened to on Bulldog Insider through CitadelSports.com or on ESPN Radio 910 The Team with the voice of the Bulldogs Darren Goldwater and color analyst Walt Nadzak.
Saturday's game will be the 88th meeting between The Citadel and Furman. The Paladins are the oldest and most played of all Bulldog opponents. The series between these two dates back to Nov. 1, 1913 when the Bulldogs claimed a 75-0 win in Charleston. Furman won the next five before The Citadel earned their next win in 1924. The Paladins lead the series, 54-30-3, while The Citadel is 12-30 in games played in Greenville.
A win for the Bulldogs will give them their 450th victory all-time. Currently holding a record of 449-496-32, The Citadel has a winning percentage of .460 in its 101st year of competition. A win against Furman would also give The Citadel their first back-to-back victories against the Paladins since 1991-94, when they won four consecutive.
The Bulldogs (3-3 overall; 1-2 SoCon) dropped to No. 24 in The Sports Network Poll and out of the FCS Coaches Top 25 after their heartbreaking 27-23 loss against Elon last week at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Furman (5-2 overall; 2-1 SoCon) is ranked No. 19 on both polls and is coming off a 27-21 victory against Western Carolina at Paladin Stadium.
The last time The Citadel won at Furman was on Oct. 17, 1998, one day off exactly 10 years ago. The Bulldogs came back from a 21-0 deficit to snap a three-game losing streak to the Paladins who were ranked 24th in the nation. It was Furman's second loss in 15 home games.
