Battle of the Bulldogs: The Citadel Football Looks to Claim Another Win at Samford

Charleston, S.C. The Citadel Football will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the first time when they take on Southern Conference newcomer Samford for the Bulldogs' homecoming at Seibert Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Central and the game can be listed to on Bulldog Insider through CitadelSports.com or on ESPN Radio 910 The Team with the voice of the Bulldogs Darren Goldwater and color analyst Walt Nadzak.

Saturday's game will be only the second meeting between the two Bulldog teams; however it is the first for both teams as members of the Southern Conference. Samford, the newest member of the SoCon, joined the conference this season. The previous meeting between The Citadel and Samford was on Nov. 4, 1989 in Charleston at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The Citadel Bulldogs won, 35-16, and Bulldog running back coach Everett Sands was a freshman on the Bulldog roster at the time.

The Citadel (3-4 overall; 1-3 SoCon) is entering Saturday's game in need of a win after losing their last three games. Their most recent loss came in a 34-20 final at Furman on Saturday, Oct. 18. Prior to the Paladin victory, the Bulldogs recorded a loss at Appalachian State on Oct. 4 and versus Elon on Parents Day on Oct. 11.

Samford (3-3 overall; 1-2 SoCon) was off last week after recording a 35-24 loss against Appalachian State. Their other conference loss was at Elon, 23-17, on Sept. 13, while their win was at Western Carolina in a 21-6 final on Oct. 4.

A win for The Citadel Bulldogs will give them their 450th victory all-time. Currently holding a record of 449-497-32, The Citadel has a winning percentage of .460 in its 101st year of competition.
