Coaches Name DeHaven, Roberts and Reese to Southern Conference First Team; Cornett Earns Second Team Honors

Charleston, S.C. The Southern Conference head football coaches named offensive lineman Dan DeHaven, wide receiver Andre Roberts and defensive lineman Terrence Reese to the All-Conference First Teams, released Tuesday by the Southern Conference. Roberts was also named to the First Team Specialists, while tight end Taylor Cornett earned second team honors.

DeHaven, a 6-5, 295-pounder from James Island, S.C., is a redshirt junior offensive lineman who played a significant role in the Bulldogs' offensive efforts throughout the season. In particularly, DeHaven was instrumental against the No.3 ranked Florida Gators on Saturday. The Bulldogs' 19 points was the third most points of any Gator opponent this season.

Roberts, a 5-11, 175-pound junior wide receiver from Columbia, S.C., has a list of 2008 highlights that include The Citadel all-time record-breaking performances and top rankings in the SoCon and the FCS, as one of the best all-purpose athletes in the country. He ended the 2008 campaign with 95 catches for 1,334 yards, both all-time school records and good enough for No. 1 in the conference and No. 2 in the nation. Ranked as the top punt returner in the country, Roberts finished the season as the top all-purpose runner in the SoCon and second in conference scoring.

Reese, a 6-0, 275-pound junior defensive lineman from North, S.C., suffered with injuries throughout the year and was still a dominant figured on the football field this season for the Bulldogs. He finished the season with 49 total tackles, 25 solo and 24 assisted of which 8.5 were for a loss of 20 yards. He was also responsible for two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two quarterback hurries and one pass breakup.

Cornett, 6-4, 220-pound senior tight end from Columbia, S.C., is one of the best tight ends in the history of the Bulldog program. He finished the season as the fourth leading receiver on the team with 24 catches for 244 yards. He averaged 10.2 yards a catch and totaled four touchdowns, the second most of any Bulldog this season. Cornett ended his career at The Citadel having started in all but one game in the four years as a Bulldog. He totaled 54 receptions for 488 yards and six touchdowns.

The 2008 Southern Conference champion and three-time defending national champion Appalachian State led the way with 14 players selected on the all-conference team, including 10 first-team and four second-team selections. The Mountaineers also earned three of the five major awards in the SoCon football coaches' year-end balloting, as junior quarterback Armanti Edwards was named Offensive Player of the Year and junior linebacker Jacque Roman earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Head coach Jerry Moore was also honored by his peers with his sixth Coach of the Year award.

The coaches selected Samford quarterback Dustin Taliaferro as SoCon Freshman of the Year while Furman senior offensive tackle Joel Bell was voted as the recipient of the Jacobs Blocking Award, which is presented annually to the top blocker in the Southern Conference.
